Help! My Boss is Toxic ☠️

Work is ruining my life. What do I do?!
work & ambition

Have you ever looked at your manager and thought - who let you do this? How tf did you get this job?

If I see one more manager failing up into a leadership position - I might scream.

We realize that your manager impacts your mental health more than your therapist, right? Goodness me.

Toxic managers make my blood boil. While some are toxic by choice, others are toxic by accident - either way, the intent never diminishes their impact.

The way I see it, there are 4 types of toxic managers:

  1. Toxic positivity: this manager thinks the world is full of rainbows and butterflies. They’re sneaky because they act like your bff, but lack the emotional intelligence to recognize that you are a human with real emotions. Bad things happen. Your manager should help you navigate challenges at work.
  2. The ghost: you might think a manager who let’s you do your thing sounds like a dream, but these managers are never there when you need them. They don’t give direction and refuse to weigh in on strategy - but you better believe they will step in to take credit for your success.
  3. The micromanager: self-explanatory - we do not like a micromanager.
  4. The d*ck: this is the traditional toxic manager. They take credit for your work, are rude / hostile and often use “radical candor” as an excuse. 10/10 do not recommend interacting with this type if you can help it.

As difficult as these people are - dealing with them is an ugly, inevitable part of life. Once you realize that insecurity is at the core of these poor behaviors - it becomes 10x easier to deal with them.

If your manager is pushing you dangerously close to a meltdown, you're not alone. Check out this episode of Organized Chaos to learn simple strategies for taking back control of your work life.

You deserve to work for employers who value you. If you're consistently berated or belittled, it's not just bad for your performance. It affects every aspect of your self-confidence and mental health.

The right job for you exists. Go and find it 🤍

I know you care what people think. Honestly, same.

People love to say they “don’t care what others think about them”. But sometimes, saying you care is the strongest thing of all.
